How Often Should an Office Be Cleaned?

How to choose an office cleaning frequency based on staff numbers, foot traffic, amenities, customer areas and workplace use.

There is no single frequency that fits every office. Busy amenities and customer-facing areas may need attention more often than low-use rooms. The best office-cleaning schedule separates high-use tasks from weekly and periodic work.

Areas that often need the most frequent attention

Bathrooms, kitchens, entrances, bins and high-traffic floor areas generally accumulate visible use faster than low-traffic rooms. The exact frequency should be based on staff numbers, visitors, operating hours and how the space is used.

Tasks that can sit on a weekly rotation

Detail dusting, low-use areas, internal glass and other presentation tasks may be placed on a rotating schedule where that suits the site. This keeps the routine efficient while still maintaining detail over time.

Periodic deeper cleaning

Carpet steam cleaning and deeper floor or external presentation work do not usually need to occur at every routine visit. Plan those tasks separately so they happen when the site actually needs them.

Signs your current cleaning frequency may be too low

  • Amenities deteriorate before the next scheduled clean
  • Bins regularly overflow
  • Entrance floors or customer areas look tired during business hours
  • Staff repeatedly raise the same cleaning issue
  • Seasonal or operational changes increase site traffic

If those patterns keep appearing, the better fix may be changing the frequency or scope rather than simply asking the cleaner to “do more” in the same time.
